Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Lets You Pick Hard Mode Immediately

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is ditching a major requirement from its predecessors. Eurogamer reports that players can select Hard Mode right from the beginning, a change from the first two parts which locked the higher difficulty behind a full story completion.

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi told Hardcore Gamer the team reworked the system to match Revelation's open design. He explained that because the world opens up early, allowing players to fly straight into tough fights, the difficulty options needed to be available sooner.

According to Hamaguchi, Hard Mode is available from the start so players seeking a challenge can have it on their first run. This shift is due to what the director calls a "wide variety of end-game content," per Kotaku, giving players plenty to do after the main story without needing a second playthrough.

The game will also launch with Dynamic Mode, a returning feature that scales enemy difficulty with the player's progression. Kotaku adds that Hard Mode will not ban item usage this time, due to more complex combat and job systems.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, PC, and Nintendo's next-gen system in April 2027.
