First 'Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum' set photo shows Frodo's return
Warner Bros. has dropped the first official look at 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,' per MovieWeb, and it confirms a major character comeback. The newly released set photo reveals Frodo Baggins is returning to Middle-earth for the new film.
The movie is currently in production, with a release date set for December 17, 2027. Andy Serkis is directing the project and will also reprise his iconic role as Gollum.
Serkis is co-writing the screenplay with screenwriters Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. The film's cast also includes Ian McKellen returning as Gandalf and Jamie Dornan playing a character named Strider.
Kate Winslet is also on board, reportedly playing a character named Marigol. The story is expected to center on Gollum's journey before the events of the original 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy.
