Five Nights at Freddy's 3 sets 2027 filming start, script underway

Matthew Lillard has given fans a major update on the next Freddy's film. Speaking with Bloody Disgusting, the actor confirmed that filming for Five Nights at Freddy's 3 is slated to begin in 2027.

Lillard, who plays the villainous William Afton, per ScreenRant, revealed that a first draft of the script has already been completed and sent to the cast. He said everyone involved is "really excited" about the direction of the draft.

The news follows a report from June 2026 that writer Gary Dauberman, known for IT and the Annabelle films, had been hired to pen the script. If true, this would mark the first film in the series not directly written by creator Scott Cawthon.

While plot details remain under wraps, the previous film's ending left several threads for the sequel to pick up. These include Vanessa being inhabited by the Marionette's spirit and Afton's body being discovered inside the Springlock Bonnie suit, hinting at his transformation into the iconic Springtrap.

The update arrives as the franchise expands in other areas, with characters joining Fortnite and a physical Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location slated to open in New Jersey next year.
