Former Mass Effect dev says next game needs freedom to succeed

Former Mass Effect dev says next game needs freedom to succeed

A former BioWare developer has voiced confidence in the team behind the next Mass Effect, but only if they're left alone to create. According to VGC, Armando Troisi, who worked on the original two games, believes the series' original veterans still at the studio hold the key.

Troisi told FRVR that developers from the original trilogy, including the lead designer, the art director, and the lead cinematic animator, remain on staff. He stated they already know what to do and don't need his advice.

The former narrative director suggested the project's success hinges on whether management and stakeholders allow the team to work without interference. He alluded to reported struggles during Dragon Age: Veilguard's development when it was initially conceived as a live-service title.

Troisi argued that when BioWare focuses on its core strengths of single-player, narrative-driven RPGs with deep combat, the studio is unmatched. He concluded by saying he's rooting for them to be given the space to 'do what they do best.'
