Funcom restructures, braces for layoffs following Dune: Awakening console launch

Norwegian developer Funcom is preparing for layoffs as it enters a period of restructuring, according to a report from Eurogamer. This follows the completion of major development on their survival MMO Dune: Awakening, which recently launched its console versions.
Longtime CEO Rui Casais is leaving the company after 22 years, with Scott Junior stepping into the role. The company stated the move from full production into live service operations for Dune: Awakening requires a different organizational size and structure.
In a press release cited by Eurogamer, Casais said the project was the biggest the company has ever undertaken. He confirmed the restructuring means reducing the size of the organization and saying goodbye to valued colleagues, a process that begins now. The developer made a similar move last year following the game's initial PC release.
Funcom stated it remains committed to supporting Dune: Awakening and Conan Exiles. The console versions of Dune: Awakening, which included a new single-player mode, were released on September 22.
