Game of Thrones: War for Westeros Trailer Shows Night King on the Iron Throne
The first gameplay trailer for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros dropped at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and it ends with a chilling image. According to IGN, the Night King himself is seen seated on the Iron Throne in the footage.
The real-time strategy game, developed by PlaySide Studios, lets players command one of several factions vying for control of the Seven Kingdoms. Eurogamer reports the confirmed playable sides are House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the White Walkers.
The trailer featured numerous heroes and creatures from the HBO series. Per IGN and Eurogamer, characters shown included Jon Snow, Jaime Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, Robb Stark, Tywin Lannister, and the direwolves Ghost and Grey Wind. Faction-specific units like giants, dragons, elephants, and wildfire were also on display.
War for Westeros was originally scheduled for a 2026 release but was pushed back. IGN reports the game is now slated for an early 2027 launch, with a playable beta planned before release. The developer stated the delay was to ensure the game reaches a "high level of quality."
The game promises asymmetric strategies for each faction, with players managing resources, constructing buildings, and deploying heroes with unique abilities in real-time battles.
