Gameplay from Avalanche's canceled Iron Man game leaks online
A batch of never-before-seen footage from a canned Iron Man video game has surfaced online, per reports from IGN and Eurogamer.
The clips show off extremely early gameplay from a project that was in development at Avalanche Studios, the team behind Just Cause and Mad Max, in the early 2010s. The title was never officially announced and was ultimately canceled.
According to the leaks, which reportedly came from a PlayStation 3 dev kit, the game featured an open world where Iron Man could fly around and battle jets. The combat mixed hand-to-hand brawling described as "Arkham-esque" with the hero's signature repulsors and missiles. Environments also appeared to be semi-destructible, letting the armored Avenger throw enemies through walls and tear up buildings.
Eurogamer notes the footage includes what looks like an unfinished E3 demo. The project's existence was only confirmed in 2022 by former Avalanche co-founder Christofer Sundberg, who said it was scrapped after Disney reportedly shortened the development timeline.
The silver lining for Iron Man fans is that another crack at a solo game is in the works. As both outlets mention, EA Motive is currently developing a single-player Iron Man title, though details remain scarce.
