Gears of War E-Day devs 'proud' to be an Xbox exclusive title

The developers behind Gears of War: E-Day say they're honored to carry the franchise forward as an Xbox exclusive. In an interview reported by IGN, studio leaders at The Coalition expressed pride in their role following Microsoft's renewed focus on exclusive games.
Creative director Matt Searcy told Destin Lergarie that the team feels "great" about the game's status. "It's part of Xbox's DNA," he said. "We feel pretty honored to have Gears and be the ones bringing that legacy forward."
The declaration comes after months of platform confusion. A remaster, Gears of War: Reloaded, released on PlayStation 5 in August 2025, leading many to believe the series was going multiplatform. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma ended the speculation at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, confirming E-Day would only be on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Searcy said the team's primary focus was making a great game. "We just wanted to make the best goddamn Gears game we could," he said. He called it a "really cool moment" to see the game positioned as a flagship title in Microsoft's new strategy.
"We're proud to be one of Xbox's main titles," Searcy continued, per the report. "It's pretty cool to show up now and fill that role again."
Gears of War: E-Day launched in early access on October 1, with its full release scheduled for October 6, according to IGN.
