Gears of War: E-Day servers hit by DDoS attack over weekend

Gears of War: E-Day was hit by a distributed denial-of-service attack over the weekend, developer The Coalition confirmed. According to IGN, the DDoS attack caused intermittent disconnects and login issues for players on Xbox and PC.
The official Gears Community X account stated the problems were due to "DDoS attacks targeting our online services," per Kotaku. The studio said its teams were monitoring and mitigating the activity and thanked players for their patience.
Eurogamer reported that the login issues, which began on Sunday, caused server outages and extended wait times. The Xbox support account later tweeted that service was back to normal.
The attack comes amid a reportedly soft commercial start for the game. IGN notes that earlier reporting pointed to an estimated 230,000 copies sold in its first week, a figure not officially confirmed by Microsoft. Kotaku adds that an estimated 1.7 million people played via Game Pass.
Speculation about the attack's motive is rampant online, with some pointing to a fringe backlash against the game. The Coalition has not commented on any potential reason for the DDoS.
