God of War Laufey screenshot shows Kratos in a Greek setting, puzzling fans

A new screenshot for God of War Laufey is sparking fan speculation, as it features Kratos in a setting resembling Ancient Greece. According to IGN, the image shows the game's heroine, Laufey, standing alongside Kratos in what looks like a Greek temple. This is puzzling because, as the outlet notes, Laufey is supposed to be dead and never visited Greece during Kratos's time there.

The game's story begins with Laufey awakening in the Everywhen, an afterlife for gods. Kratos has been shown visiting her there briefly. This new screenshot confirms he appears again, but raises questions about which version of Kratos this is and when this scene takes place. Fans on forums like ResetEra are debating whether it's a dream, a flashback, or a part of the Everywhere itself.

The image, shared via a PlayStation blog, also showcases Kratos's detailed beard rendered on PS5 Pro hardware. The screenshot was released alongside preorder details for the game.

Per VGC, preorders for God of War Laufey begin on September 29. The game will have a Standard Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes an artbook, a digital soundtrack, and two armor sets. Anyone who preorders will get a Last Wish Armor Set, a weapon appearance, and a resource pack.

GameSpot reports the Standard Edition will be available physically and digitally, while the Deluxe Edition is a digital exclusive. God of War Laufey launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027.
