Godzilla Remaster Devs Say GTA 6 Wasn't a Factor in November Release Date
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is set to launch on November 3, just over two weeks before Grand Theft Auto VI hits stores. According to IGN, the developers at Pipeworks insist Rockstar's blockbuster was 'never part of our thinking' when picking that date.
Senior designer Simon Strange told IGN that the team wasn't looking at the calendar and worrying about other games. He said the primary reason for the date is that November 3 is Godzilla's birthday, recognized by IP owner Toho as 'Godzilla Day'.
Strange explained that making sure the game launched on that specific date was a matter of respect for the character. He said the timeline was set after securing the contract with publisher Atari and arranging for physical disc manufacturing.
Per IGN, Atari was 'certainly aware' of how close the launch was to GTA 6's November 19 release. However, the publisher felt the gap between dates gave their titles enough room. Atari also has Barbie Rewind launching on November 12.
An Atari spokesperson said it's been exciting to see fan reactions and creative memes online about their games releasing near GTA 6. They called it a 'fun event' driven by the community. The Godzilla remaster is coming to PC, Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
