Grey's Anatomy Boss Teases Texas Spinoff and Says No End in Sight

Grey's Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis says the long-running medical drama has no finish line in sight. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Marinis stated, "No one has said anything to me about when the last season of Grey’s is going to be."

Instead, the franchise is expanding. Marinis confirmed she and creator Shonda Rhimes are co-creating a new spinoff series for ABC. Per THR, the show will take place at a medical facility in a remote part of West Texas and is slated to premiere during the 2026-2027 broadcast season. Star Ellen Pompeo is attached as an executive producer.

Marinis told the outlet the new project is "related to Grey’s, but its stories are going to be different," focusing on healthcare in isolated areas. She said they are "digging into the actual communities and true stories" of the region.

The interview followed the Season 23 premiere, which featured the return of Pompeo's character Meredith. Variety also reported the episode set up future storylines and that a special episode featuring Dolly Parton is planned.
