GTA 6 footage and map details leak online in massive breach
Grand Theft Auto 6 appears to have sprung a serious leak. Gameplay footage, a possible map, and a set of demands aimed squarely at Rockstar Games all surfaced online this week, and Rockstar's response has been to fire off DMCA takedown notices, according to GameSpot and PC Gamer. Nothing has been officially confirmed, but takedowns are not usually issued over fakes, and that has fans treating at least some of the material as the real thing.
The leaker, who goes by the name Cyberleek per GameSpot, is not asking for money. Instead they have published a list of three demands for Rockstar and other publishers, framed as commandments: stop selling digital preorders, stop selling what they call fake single-player DLC, and preserve single-player content. The statement describes those three points as a floor rather than a ceiling, and warns that publishers who break them will be targeted with further leaks.
Two clips have been circulating, both already getting harder to find as the takedowns land. The first, roughly a minute long, shows co-lead Jason at home shooting hoops, and it doubles as a look at a modified HUD and a basketball tutorial that walks through the minigame's controls. Some viewers who saw it before it vanished suggested it comes from a noticeably older build than the one due in stores this year, GameSpot notes.
The second clip is more eventful. Jason gets behind the wheel for a stretch of driving, crashes into several vehicles, and manages to provoke a delivery driver into a fistfight, which plays out in the game's melee combat. The brawl draws police attention, so in the space of one short video the leak shows off driving, on-foot combat, and the wanted system.
A map of Leonida, the game's setting, was also part of the dump. Whether it actually came from Rockstar or was assembled by a fan is unclear, and GameSpot flags that uncertainty specifically, so the map is the piece to treat with the most caution.
The timing is awkward for Rockstar. The leak lands just over a week before GTA 6's extended showcase on Netflix, scheduled for August 27, which is expected to give the first in-depth official look at the game's features. GTA 6 itself is set for November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Physical copies will ship with a download code in the box rather than a disc, though Take-Two has said it has not entirely ruled out a disc release down the line.
If the clips are genuine, they offer the first look at systems like the HUD, the melee combat, and the wanted mechanics outside of Rockstar's own trailers. Expect the official version of that story on Netflix next week.
