GTA 6 Leaker's Crypto Scheme Exposed by Fan, Take-Two Subpoenas Microsoft and Discord
The hunt for the source of a wave of Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks has taken two dramatic turns, with a fan investigation exposing a potential cryptocurrency scheme and Rockstar's parent company taking legal action.
According to IGN, a GTAForums user known as Vice Cit used digital forensics to trace the leaks back to a cryptocurrency token called $CYBERLEEK. The leaker, using the alias 'CyberLeek,' has been releasing alleged gameplay videos and a map image, each promoting the memecoin and directing people to a crypto platform. A poll for choosing the next leak required users to send the token to vote.
Vice Cit's investigation, per IGN, tracked the token's funding to a wallet that received money from the Seychelles-based exchange KuCoin, which requires identity verification. The fan theorizes the leaker invested roughly $29,000 and has already profited between $40,000 and $60,000 from trading fees, with ongoing daily profits motivating a slow-drip of leaks. Vice Cit called the leaker's accompanying manifesto about 'gamers rights' and physical media 'virtue signaling' for public support.
Meanwhile, Take-Two Interactive is pursuing legal channels. As reported by VGC and GameSpot, the publisher has filed subpoenas in the Southern District Court of New York, petitioning Microsoft and Discord for user records to identify the leaker.
The subpoena, per VGC, demands from Microsoft 'all internal... records... sufficient to identify the user(s)... associated with the 'cyberleek' persona.' It similarly asks Discord for identifying information on all user accounts in relevant servers since June 1, 2026, including registration emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, and linked connections like Google or Xbox accounts.
Eurogamer also reports on the legal action, noting the subpoenas seek any data 'sufficient to identify the users person' from OneDrive, Xbox accounts, or Discord. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has publicly commented on the leaks.
