GTA 6's $400 Collector's Set Sparks Fan Backlash Over Price and Contents
Rockstar Games has revealed a $400 collector's box for Grand Theft Auto VI, and fans are furious it doesn't include a copy of the game. Per IGN, the 'Goodtime State: Vice City Collection' is packed with premium merchandise but leaves out the main event entirely, leading to widespread online criticism over its value.
The set, which Kotaku reports is themed around a fictional in-game TV show called 'Macca the Gator,' includes items like a pair of Oakley sunglasses, a pink alligator vinyl statue, a shot glass, enamel pins, and a double-sided map poster. According to GameSpot, the box is available for pre-order and launches on November 19, the same day as the game itself.
Fans are loudly comparing it to past Rockstar offerings. IGN notes that Red Dead Redemption 2 had a similar game-less collector's box priced at $100, which many felt was more reasonably priced and connected to that game's world. Critics also point out that Grand Theft Auto V's special editions, which did include the game, cost significantly less.
The reaction on social media has been intensely negative. As reported by Kotaku, many fans expressed disappointment that the expensive set focuses on cartoon characters from an unseen show instead of the game's protagonists, Jason and Lucia.
