GTA 6's romance system is optional, dev says 'don't bother with it'
If you're not interested in a love story, you can just skip it. That's the word from Rockstar dev Rob Nelson, who told IGN the romantic bond between protagonists Jason and Lucia is entirely optional in Grand Theft Auto VI.
According to the interview, players who engage with the system can have the characters hold hands, visit a zoo, or take romantic beach walks. Nelson stressed that players who don't want to do those things don't have to, but they might miss out on some content.
The developer added that players will need to manage the relationship through in-game actions like responding to texts. Nelson said the story draws from the 'Bonnie and Clyde concept' of outlaws in love, which was a driving inspiration for the game's narrative.
In other GTA 6 news reported by GameSpot, the game is introducing a criminal 'honor system' similar to Red Dead Redemption 2. Your actions will build a criminal profile, with labels ranging from 'Professional' down to 'Aggressive,' 'Violent,' and 'Psycho.' Reaching a fifth, unnamed state is described as a 'point of no return' from villainy, per the outlet.
Finally, a quarter-century tradition is ending. As reported by Eurogamer, GTA 6 is ditching the need to tap a face button to sprint. Instead, players will click the left stick (L3), a control scheme standard in most modern shooters. The change, confirmed by YouTuber MikeShowSha, ends one of the series' most recognizable, and for some, thumb-fatiguing, control quirks.
