GTA 6 will simulate destructive tropical storms and hurricanes

According to a report from IGN, Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to feature a remarkably advanced weather system, including simulated tropical storms and hurricanes that will ravage its virtual Florida.
The details come from a Game Informer cover story, which cites Rockstar vice president of art Owen Shepherd. Per the report, the game's weather has been re-engineered to be more localized and persistent, with dynamic cloudscapes that roll across the map.
Shepherd explained that these major storm systems will combine heavy clouds, strong winds, dense atmospherics, and torrential rain. The environment will react accordingly, with water gushing off roof edges and lampposts while thunder and lightning flash dramatically.
The system also includes more subtle effects. IGN's report notes that rain will create realistic rainbows under the right conditions, and recently showered areas will remain wet with persistent puddles after a storm passes.
With a map reportedly three times larger than those in Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, the ability to simulate these moving, localized weather events marks a significant technical leap. Players can expect one area to be sunny while another is under a downpour.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19.
