Guy Pearce transforms into Rupert Murdoch in first 'Ink' trailer

The first trailer for Danny Boyle's new film "Ink" has dropped, showing Guy Pearce fully transformed into media titan Rupert Murdoch. Per MovieWeb, the preview sets the scene in late 1960s London, where a young Murdoch purchases The Sun newspaper to shake up the Fleet Street establishment.

The film, adapted from a celebrated stage work by James Graham, follows Murdoch and editor Larry Lamb, played by Jack O'Connell, as they reinvent the news with a focus on scandal, sex, and sensationalism. Claire Foy co-stars as a Sun reporter. In the trailer, Pearce's Murdoch declares they want readers to "feel alive" when they pick up their paper.

According to TheWrap, Pearce shared at the Venice Film Festival that Murdoch approved of his casting. The actor relayed a message from Murdoch's daughter Elizabeth, who stated her father was pleased with the selection, though he hadn't seen the film yet.

Director Danny Boyle told the festival he was careful not to paint Murdoch as a villain from the start, noting the mogul initially represented a "breath of fresh air" challenging a rigid society. Boyle said it was important the audience feels complicit in the story.

"Ink" is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 11, followed by a Netflix debut in the US and Latin America on January 8, 2027.
