Gwyneth Paltrow lands first leading TV role in Netflix's new A24 series

Gwyneth Paltrow is heading to Netflix for her first starring television gig. According to reports from TheWrap and Variety, she will lead 'The Apology,' a new drama series from studio A24.

The streamer has already committed to two full seasons of the show. Deadline reported that Netflix secured the project in a preemptive buy after a competitive negotiation.

Per Variety, Paltrow will portray Evelyn Amspoker, a mother whose child was killed nearly two decades ago in a high-profile unsolved case. The official description states that when a mysterious individual comes forward to admit guilt, Evelyn and her husband Caleb see a chance for closure. That hope shatters when they discover the confessed murderer could receive a light punishment, leading the couple to pursue their own form of justice.

Thomas Vinterberg, director of 'Another Round,' is set to helm the series. It was created by Joe Murtagh, who will also serve as showrunner. Executive producers include Murtagh, Vinterberg, Paltrow, and Joe Hipps.

The two-season order arrives during a period of significant change at Netflix. The company recently cut about six percent of its workforce and has seen several top content executives depart, including former film chief Dan Lin.
