Halo co-creator slams remake's 'damn ugly' new ring design
The father of Master Chief himself is throwing shade at Halo's latest release. According to reports from VGC, Eurogamer, PC Gamer, and Kotaku, original Halo co-creator and art director Marcus Lehto has some harsh words for the art direction in Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Lehto reportedly called the redesigned Halo ring 'out of scale, no mystery, damn ugly.' He specifically criticized the look as being way too shiny and new, lacking the original's mystique, per PC Gamer. Kotaku notes he did find one positive, praising the new look of the Flood enemies.
The criticism comes amid a reportedly rough launch for the remake. Eurogamer reports the title failed to sell well on PS5, with low-effort Call of Duty ports outselling it 16-to-1. Contract positions were terminated after the game shipped, and players have also been unhappy with various changes.
