Halo multiplayer project Ekur axed as Xbox cuts gut id Software and worry Bethesda
The fallout from Microsoft's massive Xbox restructuring continues to shake its studios. Eurogamer reports Halo Studios has cancelled a multiplayer project codenamed Ekur, which featured customizable Spartans and Elites in large-scale battles.
Meanwhile, the cuts have hit id Software particularly hard. According to Eurogamer, the Doom and Quake studio was 'gutted,' raising doubts about its future standalone capabilities. Rock Paper Shotgun adds that id was reportedly developing pitches for a new Perfect Dark game and an original John Wick-inspired title before the layoffs.
The anxiety is spreading across other Xbox teams. Staff at Bethesda working on The Elder Scrolls 6 are reportedly worried the cuts will cause even more delays to the long-awaited RPG, per Rock Paper Shotgun, as the studio was already 'running a tight ship.'
