HBO revives 'Girls' for 2027 with original cast returning

The girls are officially getting back together. HBO has greenlit a revival of Lena Dunham's series "Girls," according to reports from Variety and TVLine.

The revival will be a limited series of five episodes, with production set to begin in 2027. That's a full decade after the original show concluded its six-season run on the network back in 2017.

Per Variety, the core cast is confirmed to return. Lena Dunham will reprise her role as Hannah Horvath, with Allison Williams as Marnie, Jemima Kirke as Jessa, and Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna. Andrew Rannells is also set to return as Elijah.

Dunham released a statement, also published by TVLine, explaining the return. "We always said we would only return to 'Girls' if there was a specific story we were burning to tell," she said. She added that the characters "started talking" to her around her fortieth birthday.

Judd Apatow will return as an executive producer alongside Dunham. Williams, Kirke, Mamet, and Rannells will serve as co-executive producers for the new episodes.
