Helldivers 2 Hits Over 22.9 Million Players, a Rare Sony Live-Service Win
Helldivers 2 has pulled in a massive player base, per a Sony blog post reported by Push Square. The game has attracted over 22.9 million players across PS5, PC, and Xbox since its 2024 launch, a figure logged before its recent addition to PS Plus Extra.
This makes it one of the most-played titles in PlayStation history. The outlet expects it to easily surpass 25 million players soon, as it's already a top download on the subscription service.
The game continues to expand with new content, including a Warhammer 40k warbond and a fresh narrative campaign called 'Devoid of Liberty'. Sony also has a movie adaptation of the franchise slated for November 2027.
Push Square notes that, aside from long-running series like Gran Turismo and MLB The Show, this Arrowhead-developed hit is Sony's only major live-service success from its recent push into the model. The outlet argues it shows the value of letting studios develop ideas organically rather than forcing them.
