Hidden details and new cast look emerge from latest Harry Potter series previews
A new trailer for HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series is packed with subtle details that might be easy to miss, per /Film. The footage hints at a flashback showing a younger Lily and James Potter, the boy wizard's parents, running across a bridge lit by a spell.
We also get a first official look at the pets. The trailer introduces Harry's snowy owl Hedwig and Trevor the toad, belonging to his dormmate Neville Longbottom. Another shot focuses on a wizard's chess set where the pieces are seen aggressively fighting each other, a step up from the more static versions in the original films.
A small but notable change appears in Hermione Granger's introduction. Instead of bursting into Harry and Ron's train compartment, she's seen on the Hogwarts Express asking other students if they did the summer reading, a scene that couldn't happen in the book's Harry-centric perspective.
Separately, HBO released a press photo giving a first look at Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. According to /Film, Quirrell, who wears a signature turban, is a minor but key character whose true nature as a vessel for Voldemort is a central twist in the story. The series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," is set to premiere on Christmas Day 2026.
