Hideki Kamiya Dares Xbox CEO to Revive Cancelled Scalebound

Game director Hideki Kamiya has publicly thrown down the gauntlet to Xbox's new CEO, Asha Sharma. In an interview with VGC reported by IGN, the Bayonetta creator declared he is prepared to restart work on the long-dead dragon action RPG Scalebound whenever Microsoft gives the signal.

Kamiya, who now leads the studio Clovers, told the outlet he hasn't spoken directly to Sharma yet but used the interview as an open invitation. He stated that both he and Clovers president Kento Koyama are ready to go if Xbox wants to proceed, and even requested that some old Scalebound footage be included in the article for Sharma to review.

The project was first announced in 2014 as an Xbox One exclusive but was officially canceled by Microsoft in 2017 after years of delays. Kamiya told VGC he recently dined with former team members and they all recalled how fun the development was, reinforcing his strong desire to finally complete the game.

Separately, Kotaku reports that Kamiya has been fighting bizarre online rumors on social media. Some users have falsely claimed he misused Microsoft's development funds for Scalebound to finance other projects, like Bayonetta 2.

Kamiya responded to these accusations on X with threats of defamation lawsuits. In one machine-translated post, he called people spreading the claims 'shitty bugs' and said he would sue them. Neither PlatinumGames nor Microsoft has ever suggested any financial misconduct occurred during the game's development.
