Hideki Kamiya says he's '100% serious' about reviving Xbox's cancelled Scalebound

Hideki Kamiya says he's '100% serious' about reviving Xbox's cancelled Scalebound

Legendary game director Hideki Kamiya is still dreaming of reviving the long-dead Xbox project Scalebound, per Eurogamer.

In an interview, Kamiya confirmed he has not spoken to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma about bringing the game back, but he is open to the idea. "Now's my opportunity to once again say that if they want to do it, let's make it happen!" he said, according to the report.

Kamiya noted that several former PlatinumGames developers now work at his new studio, Clovers. That studio is currently focused on making Okami 2, but Kamiya expressed strong desire to see Scalebound through. "I'm being 100% serious when I say that," he stated.

He admitted Clovers might not be ready to tackle the project immediately. However, he remains optimistic, citing the return of Okami after many years as proof that long-dormant projects can be revived.

Scalebound was announced as an Xbox One exclusive in 2014. Microsoft cancelled the dragon-themed action game in 2017 after about four years of development. A previous statement from PlatinumGames' CEO had placed blame for the cancellation on both the studio and Microsoft.
