Hyun Bin and Woo Do-hwan Clash in Expensive K-Drama Made in Korea Season 2
The second season of the Hulu and Disney+ K-drama Made in Korea arrives on September 9, per a Variety report. It will premiere with six episodes, concluding the story in the politically volatile year of 1979.
With a reported budget of roughly 70 billion Korean won (about $51 million) for its two seasons, the series is noted as one of the most expensive Korean dramas ever produced. Director Woo Min-ho stated the chaotic historical period was a natural endpoint for the characters' ambitions.
The story leaps forward nine years from the first season. Variety notes that Hyun Bin's character, Baek Ki-tae, has ascended within the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, holding a high-ranking position. His brother, Baek Ki-hyun, played by Woo Do-hwan, has also risen through military ranks, leading to a growing conflict between them.
Jung Woo-sung's character, prosecutor Jang Geon-young, returns seeking revenge, according to the actor's tease. Director Woo Min-ho described the new season as having a tighter, faster-paced narrative that unfolds like one continuous movie, compared to the more episodic first season.
The series marks a shift toward shorter prestige runs, moving away from the traditional 16-episode Korean drama format. Made in Korea will conclude with this season, but writer Park Eun-gyo is already developing a follow-up series set in the 1990s.
