Idris Elba's Astronaut Thriller Above the Below Drops Tense New Trailer
Idris Elba is trapped at the bottom of the sea in space gear in a new trailer for the survival thriller "Above the Below."
Per Yahoo, the footage shows Elba's commander Jackson trying to calm a panicking crewmate, played by Caitlin Fitzgerald, as their capsule sinks into the ocean depths after a failed atmospheric entry. With oxygen supplies dwindling, the trailer is filled with chaotic scenes and a voiceover from Elba questioning if a person can maintain focus when fighting to survive.
The film's logline describes three astronauts who survive a fall from orbit only to be imprisoned in the deep ocean, forced to make brutal choices about who attempts to reach the surface.
Elba not only stars but also co-directs the project with Martin Owen. The script was penned by a writing team including Elizabeth Morris, based on an original story from Owen.
"Above the Below" is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on December 4, 2026.
