Imax Earnings Jump on Hits Like Mario and Michael, With Nolan's Odyssey Looming
Imax just had a killer quarter, thanks to some familiar faces on the big screen. According to Variety, the premium format giant saw revenues jump 12% to $102.8 million, with net income soaring 30% over last year.
TheWrap reports that blockbusters like 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' and the Michael Jackson biopic 'Michael' were major drivers, generating $285 million in total box office for Imax screens. But the company is already looking ahead to an even bigger payday.
During an earnings call, Imax's CEO singled out Christopher Nolan's upcoming film 'The Odyssey' as a 'transformational event' for the business, suggesting the real windfall is still to come.
