Infinity Ward Dodges on Captain Price's Final Fate in Modern Warfare 4
Is Captain Price dead or alive at the end of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4? According to IGN, developer Infinity Ward is being deliberately vague.
In a mid-credits scene described by IGN, Captain Price is seen impaled by a metal pipe after a truck crash. After killing his enemy, The Archer, with the same pipe, Price lies still as his ally Ghost arrives. Narrative director Jeff Negus told IGN the scene's pacing is "consistent" with other character deaths in the game, but declined to give a definitive answer.
Per IGN, the campaign sees the deaths of several established characters, including Gaz, Graves, and Gabriela, who are all shot in the head. The villain Makarov is also killed early in the story.
The outlet notes the ambiguous ending could leave the door open for Price's return, especially if the game is a commercial success. However, IGN's interpretation is that Price's story achieves a heroic conclusion, suggesting his journey is over.
In related news, VGC reports that Activision has stated Modern Warfare 4 will "close this chapter and launch a new one" for the Call of Duty series.
