Insomniac Confirms Purple Sword Villain in Wolverine Is Lady Deathstrike
Insomniac Games had to step in and clarify a character reveal after the latest Marvel's Wolverine trailer sparked fan confusion. According to IGN, many viewers mistook the villain wielding a glowing purple energy sword for the mutant Psylocke.
The developer posted an image on social media directly labeling the character as Lady Deathstrike. The confusion seems to have stemmed primarily from the weapon, as fans are more accustomed to seeing Lady Deathstrike use her signature adamantium fingernail claws.
Insomniac had previously shown this version of the character in earlier trailers, like the 'Ain't No Hero' preview from July. Those clips featured her attacking Wolverine with her classic claws, not a sword. The studio has not explained why this iteration of Lady Deathstrike is using the new weapon.
Other confirmed characters for the game include Jean Grey and Sabretooth, but Psylocke has not been officially announced. Marvel's Wolverine is scheduled to launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
