Jagex announces RuneScape 4, an Unreal Engine MMO, and a MoistCr1TiKaL cartoon

The fantasy MMO RuneScape is getting a fourth major installment, developer Jagex announced at its RuneFest 2026 event. According to reports from IGN and VGC, the project is in early development under the working title RS4 and is being built using Unreal Engine.

Jagex told attendees the new game is designed for a modern generation of players, per IGN. VGC reports the studio stated the game will exist alongside the current live-service RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and the spinoff Dragonwilds, not as a replacement. A release is not expected for several years.

The company also announced an animated adaptation of RuneScape. IGN reports the project is a partnership with YouTuber Charlie White, known as MoistCr1TiKaL, and production company Lyrical Media. Few details about the cartoon's plot or release window were shared.

For the new MMO, Jagex confirmed the setting will be the familiar land of Gielinor in its Sixth Age timeline. The adventure will begin in the northern region of Ashenfall, an area first introduced in Dragonwilds, with the story taking place years after that game's events, according to IGN's coverage.

Other announcements at the show included RuneScape Reignited, a major update launching December 2. IGN reports it features a remastered journey guide, a fresh economy, and new hi scores. Jagex also laid out extensive 2027 roadmaps for its existing games, including new story arcs, skill reworks, and raids.
