James Gunn delivers first director's cut of 'Man of Tomorrow' nine months early

James Gunn has hit a major milestone on "Man of Tomorrow," delivering a first director's cut of the film for fellow DC Studios head Peter Safran to view. According to a report from MovieWeb, Gunn confirmed the news on social media while debunking rumors of disastrous test screenings, stating no one had seen the film until now.

The director reportedly finished principal photography in late August and has been working in the editing room since to assemble this initial cut. The news comes a full nine months before the movie's scheduled theatrical release in July 2027.

Gunn also addressed speculation about the film's cast and story. Per MovieWeb, he confirmed Nicolas Hoult's Lex Luthor will serve as an unlikely partner to David Corenswet's Superman against the threat of Lars Eidinger's Brainiac, rather than a straightforward antagonist.

The outlet also notes that casting reports have confirmed appearances by Blue Beetle and John Stewart Green Lantern, while rumors suggest Adria Arjona may play Wonder Woman. With a viewable cut now complete, the film moves into a lengthy post-production phase for visual effects work.
