James McAvoy Says Split Sends Him Wild Residual Checks

James McAvoy is opening up about the strange world of Hollywood residuals, and one film stands out for all the right reasons. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the actor told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that M. Night Shyamalan's 2016 thriller 'Split' is the only project that reliably sends him big checks.

McAvoy explained that the film had a tiny budget and turned a profit almost instantly. He said his first payment from the movie arrived shockingly fast and was for a huge amount.

On the flip side, the actor revealed that most of his residual payments are laughably small. He said he sometimes receives checks for mere cents, noting the postage to mail them costs more than the check is worth.

He specifically mentioned that he rarely sees significant money from other films like 2008's 'Wanted'. McAvoy praised Shyamalan's efficient, prepared filmmaking style, which allowed both 'Split' and its sequel 'Glass' to be made on modest budgets.
