Jamie Foxx opened up about the emotional difficulty of recovering from a stroke last year, calling the entire experience a source of agitation.
During a podcast appearance, the actor recalled a spiritual conversation he had while hospitalized. He said he questioned why the medical crisis happened to him, given his positive public persona. Per Foxx, a voice told him it was his time, a concept he struggled to accept.
The Wrap reports Foxx found the rehabilitation phase particularly hard to process. He recounted being told he'd received a 'second chance,' a notion he angrily rejected by asking what was wrong with his first opportunity.
To cope, Foxx said he relied heavily on humor, including impersonating celebrities like Dave Chappelle and Denzel Washington during medical checks. His daughter confirmed he even checked into the hospital using the latter's name.
Foxx concluded by sharing that his care team later described his survival as a 'miracle,' a sentiment that has since motivated him. He previously discussed the ordeal in his recent Netflix comedy special.
