Jason Statham's Mutiny Leaks on Prime Video Days Before Theatrical Release
Jason Statham's new action thriller "Mutiny" accidentally went live on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday, days before its planned theatrical debut this Friday, per TheWrap.
An insider told TheWrap the entire film was posted due to a mistake on Prime's product page, which usually only hosts trailers. The movie was live overnight and quickly fixed, but a small number of users accessed it. Social media users quickly noticed the error, with one joking someone at Amazon would get fired.
According to JoBlo, Lionsgate, the film's U.S. distributor, is "very unimpressed" by the leak. The outlet reports international buyers are also upset, as the accidental upload has led to widespread piracy. One buyer called it "a major f*ck-up" and an "unprecedented situation," telling Deadline they expect Amazon to write a check to help resolve the multimillion-dollar problem.
One person who worked on the project simply asked, "What the hell?" The film, directed by Jean-François Richet, stars Statham as Cole Reed, a man who boards a cargo ship for revenge after being framed for his billionaire boss's murder.
Early reviews have been mixed. TheWrap's critic noted the film takes a "scenic route" to its action, feeling like parts of another movie got collated wrong. JoBlo's review said the action hits hard when it arrives but is too scant, with the non-boat sequences feeling like a tagged-on story.
