Jean Smart joins Christmas sequel 'The Families Stone'
Emmy winner Jean Smart is heading to a chaotic family Christmas. Per Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, Smart has joined the cast of "The Families Stone," a Searchlight Pictures sequel to the 2005 holiday movie "The Family Stone.
The sequel reunites much of the original cast, including Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, and Sarah Jessica Parker. According to THR, other returning actors include Luke Wilson, Tyrone Giordano, Elizabeth Reaser, Paul Schneider, and Brian White.
Thomas Bezucha, who made the original film, is back to write and direct the new chapter. TheWrap reports principal photography will begin this autumn in New York.
The Hollywood Reporter shared the film's official plot: two decades after their mother's death, the Stone family gathers for Christmas. The holiday surprise? Their father arrives with a new love interest he wants them to meet.
Smart, who recently concluded the final season of "Hacks," is next set to appear in the Amazon MGM romantic comedy "Egg Baby."
