Jennifer Lawrence to lead Zach Cregger's sci-fi thriller The Flood

Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in Zach Cregger's upcoming sci-fi thriller "The Flood." Per Variety, Cregger will write, produce, and direct the film, which Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have scheduled for release on August 11, 2028.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project was picked up by New Line after it went into turnaround at Netflix. Production is slated to begin in Europe early in 2027. Amblin Entertainment and Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Miri Yoon are on board as producers.

Plot details remain tightly under wraps. However, MovieWeb reports that Cregger has described his vision for the film as a mix of classic sci-fi, comparing it to "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Alien." He also teased it will follow an unconventional narrative structure.

The casting marks a major get for the project, with THR noting Lawrence is known for being "quite choosy" with her roles. She will next appear in Martin Scorsese's thriller "What Happens at Night" alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.
