John Cena Accepts Why James Gunn Is Prioritizing Other DC Heroes Over Peacemaker

John Cena gets why his Peacemaker character isn't at the top of James Gunn's to-do list. In an interview on the 'Happy, Sad, Confused' podcast, Cena addressed the character's future, per Variety.

The actor, who plays the helmeted anti-hero, said he hasn't suited up since finishing Season 2. He told the host that working with Gunn makes him a better performer and he'd don the costume anytime Gunn asked.

Cena explained that Gunn originally created the 'Peacemaker' series after making 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and joining DC with 'The Suicide Squad,' with extra time afforded by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Gunn co-runs DC Studios and is overseeing a rebooted universe.

With Gunn now in charge of the entire DC slate, Cena said he understands that major icons like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman naturally demand attention first. He noted that if he were in a leadership position, he'd make the same calls.

Season 1 of 'Peacemaker' premiered in 2022, with Season 2 arriving in October 2025. Cena's film 'Matchbox: The Movie' opened in theaters last Friday.
