Josh Hartnett Reveals Scary Car Accident During 'Below' Filming

Josh Hartnett opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about a frightening real-life incident that almost derailed his hit Netflix series.

While filming the Newfoundland-set thriller 'Below', the actor and his driver were involved in a serious car accident late one night. Hartnett says they were T-boned by a police car that ran a red light.

Per the interview, the impact broke the axle of their car and smashed the engine. Hartnett credits side-impact airbags with saving them from serious injury, calling it a "miracle." He noted his driver is still dealing with whiplash.

The actor also addressed initial fears that the show would be compared to Apple TV+'s similar series 'Widow's Bay'. Hartnett told THR it created "a little bit of a scary situation," but he felt relief after seeing the trailer for the other show.

He said the project had already finished filming by the time comparisons surfaced, and Netflix didn't get scared off. The show has been a hit for the streamer, logging a record 21.2 million views in one week for a Canadian original title.

Hartnett also discussed mastering the specific Newfoundland accent for his role, calling it a blend of Irish, Canadian, and other influences that required a team on set to keep the actors on track.
