Judi Dench laments 'Cats' film as a waste of goodwill

Dame Judi Dench has shared some frank thoughts about her experience in the 2019 film adaptation of 'Cats'. In her upcoming memoir, she calls the production a disappointing waste of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber's effort.
Dench, who played Old Deuteronomy in director Tom Hooper's movie, wrote about the project's failure, per Variety. "Oh God, I can't bear it," she said, noting Lloyd Webber had waited a long time for a film version.
She specifically called it "a waste of all that goodwill and talent." Dench acknowledged that critics were hostile to the film but said she never saw the final cut herself.
The actress emphasized that no one sets out to make a bad film, stating that everyone does their best. She added that sometimes projects just don't work out due to timing or other elements not coming together.
Dench's memoir, titled "Is It Too Late to Make a Run For It?", is scheduled for release on November 3.
