Kit Harington Replaces Nicholas Hoult as Lockhart in Harry Potter Series
Gilderoy Lockhart is getting a new face, and it's a familiar one from Westeros. According to TVLine, Kit Harington has been cast as the smarmy Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in Season 2 of HBO's "Harry Potter" series.
He's stepping in for Nicholas Hoult, who had to exit the production due to scheduling conflicts, per Deadline.
Variety notes this won't be Harington's first time voicing the character. He previously played Lockhart in the Audible audiobook for "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," which is the book that the second season will adapt.
TVLine also reports this marks the show's second recasting. Gracie Cochrane, who plays Ginny Weasley in the upcoming first season, has also left the series ahead of Season 2. Her replacement has not yet been announced.
The first season, titled "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," is set to premiere this Christmas on HBO and HBO Max.
