Konami gives original Castlevania away free for 40th anniversary
Konami is celebrating Castlevania's 40th anniversary by giving the original 1986 game away for free. Per Eurogamer, the classic title is free to download on the App Store and Google Play until October 24, 2026.
The giveaway is part of a larger celebration for the franchise. A series-wide sale is also running across PlayStation and Steam stores with deep discounts on collections like the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Advance Collection.
The freebie arrives as the series prepares for its next mainline entry, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. That game, developed by Evil Empire, is scheduled for release on October 15 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
A demo for Belmont's Curse will arrive on October 1, allowing players to try the entire first chapter with progress carrying over to the full release. Eurogamer notes the game will run at 60FPS on all platforms except the Switch, which will target 30FPS.
Other anniversary events include a planned orchestral concert in 2027 and the release of a soundtrack on streaming platforms.
