Kyle MacLachlan reacts to Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides in new Dune films

Kyle MacLachlan, who played Paul Atreides in David Lynch's 1984 Dune adaptation, has shared his thoughts on Timothée Chalamet's portrayal of the character in Denis Villeneuve's films. The comments came during an interview with GQ, per ScreenRant.

MacLachlan said he didn't see himself in Chalamet's performance, but watching the new movies made him nostalgic. He specifically recalled filming scenes from the book, like the pain box test, and remembered his own costume and camera movements.

He also noted moments where he wished his version had included certain scenes, like one in a tent. MacLachlan described the experience of watching Villeneuve's films as a "weird sensation," saying he felt like he was "always kind of in the movie too, a little bit."

The actor praised the scale of the new movies, particularly the sandworms, contrasting them with the more "lo-fi" worm prop he ran after on a boxcar during his own shoot. He called Lynch's film "my Dune" and said it was full of wonderful memories.

When asked if Lynch had seen the new films, MacLachlan said the director was not interested and had not watched them. According to MacLachlan, Lynch didn't want to see them and hasn't seen much of his other work either, often seeing him as his Twin Peaks character, Dale Cooper.

Chalamet will return as Paul Atreides for the final time in Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled for release on December 18.
