Lanterns Finale Confirms Noah Is a Manhunter with a Conscience

The season finale of HBO Max's "Lanterns" has confirmed a major fan theory, but with a twist, according to /Film. It was revealed that Noah Macon is, in fact, a full Manhunter, the synthetic race created by the Guardians. However, the show subverts expectations by showing he possesses a conscience, able to act against his violent programming.

Per the report, Noah demonstrated this by saving Hal Jordan from a fire and using Manhunter tech to keep him alive. In a key scene, a holographic version of Hal notes, "He has a conscience," recognizing Noah's internal conflict. John Stewart later tells Noah that saving Hal was "the opposite of your programming."

The finale also solved the season's central mystery: who killed Hal Jordan. After a misdirect where Noah confessed, it was revealed that Sheriff Kerry Kane, Noah's mother, fired the fatal shot. Flashbacks showed Hal discovered Noah's plan for revenge against the Guardians and told Kerry, urging her to flee with him to protect Noah.

Overwhelmed, Kerry shot Hal. His final words to her were, "Goddamit, I love you." The report notes this adds a layer of tragedy, as Kerry was seemingly the only person Hal had managed to form a close bond with since his release from prison.

The episode ends with John Stewart becoming Earth's Green Lantern and allowing Noah to live, vowing to stop him only if he gives in to his worst instincts. This sets up a potential long-running dynamic between the two characters in the DC Universe.
