Leak reveals Aspyr is remastering the cult classic Shrek 2 game

While DreamWorks prepares to unleash Shrek 5 in 2027, a piece of the ogre's gaming past has just resurfaced. A remaster of the 2004 tie-in game Shrek 2 has been revealed via a leaked Xbox Store page, according to Polygon and Nintendo Life.

Per Polygon, the store listing, which has since been deleted, confirmed developer Aspyr is handling the project. The studio has a mixed reputation, known for flawed Star Wars remasters but more successful recent Lord of the Rings re-releases.

The leak also provided details on what to expect. The visual overhaul will update the original Xbox, PS2, and GameCube title. It will also add new features like a photo mode and a cheat mode.

Nintendo Life notes that a promotional trailer also surfaced online, described in the style of a GTA 6 reveal. The game itself is an isometric action-adventure that loosely follows the plot of the film.

While the leak did not provide a release date, Polygon speculates the remaster will likely launch before Shrek 5 hits theaters in June 2027. An official announcement is still pending.
