Leaked footage shows canceled Assassin's Creed Destiny game set in ancient China

Footage from a reportedly canceled Assassin's Creed game has leaked online. According to reports from IGN and Rock Paper Shotgun, the project was a major console and PC game codenamed Assassin's Creed Destiny.

The game was reportedly set in 206 BCE China during the transition from the Qin to Han dynasties. Per the leaked prototype footage, the story would have focused on the rise of Liu Bang amid a civil war, with players battling warlord Xiang Yu during a palace siege.

The footage, found by MP1st in developer portfolios, shows a hooded assassin using a spinning umbrella as a weapon. The reports indicate players might have been able to choose a male or female protagonist. The UI was thematically tied to the setting with ink brushes and yin-yang symbols.

VGC and Rock Paper Shotgun report the game was a partnership between Ubisoft and Tencent's TiMi Studio Group. It was allegedly canceled as Tencent scaled back work on big Western franchises.

This project was separate from the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade, which is still in development for the same Chinese setting. The fate of Destiny leaves another potential console entry in the series on the cutting room floor.
