Live-Action Cyberpunk 2077 Movie Will Forge a New Story, CD Projekt Says

The studio behind Cyberpunk 2077 has confirmed its upcoming live-action movie won't just rehash the video game's plot. According to a report from IGN, CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski stated the film will not be a direct adaptation.

"We want to tell a story in the world of Cyberpunk, but it won't be a one-to-one translation of the game's story," Nowakowski told a Polish outlet, as relayed by IGN. The project is being developed in partnership with Paramount, now under the Skydance umbrella after a merger, with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached.

This approach mirrors the studio's strategy for the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, which told a fresh story with original characters set in the same dystopian Night City. The game's world, originally created by tabletop RPG designer Mike Pondsmith, offers a vast setting for new narratives.

While details on the film's plot remain under wraps, CD Projekt's confirmation suggests fans can expect a wholly original tale from the neon-lit, cybernetic universe when the movie eventually arrives.
