Maggie Gyllenhaal's AI Marilyn Monroe Experiment Was a Flop
Maggie Gyllenhaal says she tried to use artificial intelligence to recreate Marilyn Monroe and it failed spectacularly.
The actor and filmmaker, who is the jury president at this year's Venice Film Festival, revealed the experiment to The Hollywood Reporter. She said she was asked to use AI to generate a version of the Hollywood icon.
According to the outlet, Gyllenhaal stated the AI attempt "fundamentally did not work." She explained that all the core creative reasons for even starting the project were "killed off" in the artificial version.
In the same interview, she compared the failed AI effort to the success of her collaborator Dakota Johnson, though the report did not specify the nature of Johnson's related project.
