Marathon Game Director Joe Ziegler Exits Bungie As Player Counts Fall
Marathon just lost its captain as player numbers sink. Game director Joe Ziegler has announced he is leaving Bungie for a new job elsewhere, per reports from GameSpot and Polygon.
The move comes at a notoriously tumultuous time for the studio and its only remaining active game. PC Gamer noted the departure arrives just four months after Marathon's launch, calling it "not good news."
Kotaku reports Ziegler's exit coincides with cratering player counts. Del Chafe III, formerly the assistant game director, will take over leadership of the project, working with creative director Julia Nardin.
Push Square characterized the move as a sudden shake-up for Sony's struggling live service title, confirming Ziegler's departure was announced on social media.
